ScannerCamera FIRST TRY!

Ok! Incase anyone is wondering what the hell this is, its a photo of me with Adrian and Jacky's first attempt at making a scanner camera. So what you see above is a shoebox with a pinhole sitting on a basic flatbed scanner, and this is just the beggining... Alot of adjustments need to be made but I'll go into detail later... for now just you all get as excited as I am.

Ok well, I just wanted to put a post up to say that this blog is approx. 1 year old! which is exciting!!! thanks to all of you that have been dropping in! To mark this occasion I maded a vector for you all, seeings as this also marks one year since I started making them! CHEERS!

I heart melbourne.

Im in america again now, Its just as I remembered. The airport gave it away with a slight smell of bacon, cheese and wet chalk. I could just say its hard to describe, but I thoughtd I'd give it a shot anyways. Its good to see Mum, Dad and Adrian. Im excited because Adrian and I are going to go shopping at some point to buy some materials to make a scannner camera, which I'm thinking could be a great medium for my photomedia class this year. So I spent the last week before coming here in Melbourne, Marius is pretty good for all those concerned, I can't wait to move there! It's such a beautiful city and talk about awsome food! I could spend a couple of years exploring every little awsome cafe or club hidden away somewhere. So yeah had a lot of fun, went out a fair bit, did some shopping and alot of social interactivity. Anyways lots of stories to tell but I must go...

If any of you are out there looking for a digital camera and you came across the canon ixus 50. you though wow what an awsome camera for an awsome price, but unfortunatley no one has them in stock, i'll give you the reason... all the folks at the camera stores are buying them all... i think i saw 5 of them at our work christmas party... it made me love my little blue nikon even more when everyones cameras got muddled up! I feel kind of sorry for anyone who happens to be in the same restaurant when we go out... the amount of flashes would surely be the likley scenario for anyone to fall into an epileptic fit.

All that was missing was a photocopier...

So now that uni is finished (for now) the creative 'ness' is beginning to flow again. Ive been sketching alot, and getting some broad results. Im trying hard to stay away from that cult eerie approach that has just swarmed artists from here to there. but sometimes you just cant help it! so as a tribute to trends I give you the bunny I SHOULD have sent to pictoplasma. CATCH UP IF YOU CAN!

Well well well, fancy seeing you here... you arrived earlier than i expected... Ive got a fish cooking in the oven... It's right at the back.
Ive had a crazy hectic woopee last couple of weeks!!! Firstly i think the most exciting thing on the agenda is the fact that on the 22nd of october i went with a bunch of great people (that is jonno, Stu, Jared and Anne) to Luna Park to see The Eels with strings... typed words couldn't express my on going excitment. Mr. E has probably been the coolest person Ive seen perform live... (And thats up there with Jay from Jamiroquai!) he was up there with his hat, walking cane, cigar (which was then later used to conduct the strings) and glass of scotch (heres hoping) and wow... sorry i just cannot put it into words. the percussionist was fantasmagorical!!! he play a saw with a bow, and rather than drums, the setup was a plastic bin and suitcase with pick-ups WAHH!
anyways I went back to Woolongong for the night then in the morning travelled to sydney then gosford then newcastle and then to the bay to stay with my sister!

In the morning Melissa (sals housemate) and sal were hanging up one of their hammocks and they thought it would be a great idea to get me to test it out. It seemed ok at first but mid scentence i fell straight onto the concrete... nice bruised ass to show for it.

That night sally had her 26th birthday party at the Old Texas Ranch which was great,HAPPY BIRTHDAY SALLY! we got drunk and all dressed up as cowboys and indians... Ill post some photos later... Melanie and I were the only Indians... the night was awsome... in brief it consisted of twisting, mechanical bull rides, limbo, steaks as big as your head... and lots of alcohol.

The next day we drove to sydney for my Omas 90th birthday... HAPPY BIRTHDAY OMA! It was at uncle Rudi's house and it was really nice to see alot of my relatives again that i hadn't seen for almost 2 years...
Liz decided to take me back to woolongong where i got to hang out with Jonno and Patrick, Patrick and catch up with Kim! I really like Woolongong... i think that perhaps Id want to live there maybe when i get back from germany!
anyways when i got back i had two days before my directing assignment was due. and including those four days before my video major work (the documentary) was due... So ive been sleeping in the labs for the last couple of nights and last night was my first night in my own bed for agesss!!! its felt great. good sleep.

So yeah!!! ive just handed those things in and its allllll good!!!
Looking forward to a good week, still have some more stuff due but its not as time consuming as editing.


So I guess thats it for now!!! I forsee alot of party photos coming up.
For those who have essays and exams and stuff still due, ALL THE BEST and ill see you with a drink in your hand when your done! (preferrably a shot of tequilla at my house!!!)

He's a SUPASTAR now...

This is a still from an advertisment I'm currently making for Cadbury... (nothing official, just a school project) and Manny is the star... He's looks good on camera! Saskia, a photography student from the Art School Used him in one of her shoots last week where she had to recreate a painting, we got some good ones and some funny ones, Ill post them up when she emails me... But for now... Its all ferrety good!

Inanimate Objects

OK Over the past weekend we had the band Inanimate Objects come to canberra, a bunch of very talented guys from wollongong stay to help me shoot a Music Video for their recently recorded song "No Time for Haste". I know these guys through the lead singer Patrick Arnold who is a good friend of my brothers. I hadnt seen him for about 2 years so it was definately good to catch up, and to also meet the other two members (minus the bass player who unfortunately couldn't make it) Patrick Douglas and Jono Hunt.

The clip was shot in the 'Black Room' aka studio 5 at CNMA. It took us about a day to get set up to do the shoot the next day. Basically the Band in the clip is playing inside an old-school radio which made setting up the lighting pretty tricky. So we went and purchased a radio from a recycling depo and cut the shape of the holes in the speaker in a large sheet of black plastic which was then hoisted up cutting off a third of the room we were shooting in. Some red-heads were set up behind them and a pin light directed on Pat who was shadowed in the corner by the guitarists. So you can kind of see a reflection of the radio light in this image of Jono's guitar.

So yeah it looks really good! the HDVcams were are now using are amazing! They make anything look broadcast quality and bring a tear to your eye when it comes to watching your footage on a television set. So these next few images are from the actual footage... I hope you like!!!

Oh and make sure you take some time to check out a couple of their songs, I strongly recommend you listen to No Time for Haste and Significance which are their two most recently recorded. Hopefully they get a few gigs in Canberra in the not to distant future and if they do I'll keep you all posted because they are definately worth the listen, not to mention entertaining to watch!

Nikon it is!

Ok, I went with the Nikon, its soooo nice! After comparing the specs it was close, but considering the nikon was cheaper and MUCH MUCH smaller (not to mention a lovely shade of blue!) it won my heart over... Hope you enjoy!!!

And soon to grace my blog, photos from my soon-to-be purchased Panasonic Lumix FZ-20. after working in a camera shop for a couple of months now I've finally fallen in love with a Single camera. although coming in a very close second was the more compact, less zoom but equally as awsome macro capabilities of the Nikon Coolpix 5900. Which is my top recommendation at the moment for anyone considering buying a compact digital camera. So for the next couple of weeks Ill keep saving and hopefully youll have some more interesting pictures to look at!

I guess I'll finally be satisfied with the layout of this blog when i finally learn html myself... So i hope everyones holidays were great!!! I had strange holidays, there were neither relaxing of fulfilling, just sort of worked at the camera shop heaps and went down to melbourne for a couple of days with Dale. THAT WAS FUN... he let me drive for an hour and a bit on our way down. It was scary... i guess the thing that turns me off driving mostly is the daunting sense of responsibility. especially on the freeway! Well we got there safe so i guess i did ok. Cut along story short, got pretty drunk, made some fantastic new friends and flew back nice and seedy for stock take.
So anyways back at uni... looking forward to this semester, doing a few fun things... First of all im designing my very own deck of playing cards... should be fun... i guess youll all see the final project in about a month and a half. and lots of video fun this semester that i hope everyone can be a part of!

You should also check out Neal's new HugeCube site which is the result of Communication Deisgn last semester.. Its great. I should have my portfolio site up before the end of the year so i needent have to blab on to express myself.
